Educational Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence: A Critical Review of Advances, Challenges, and Perspectives

Abstract

The accelerated expansion of generative artificial intelligence (AGI) in education has opened a clear gap between its daily adoption and the ability of the school system to regulate and teach it judiciously. The problem is observed in classrooms that already use the IAG for homework and feedback, while policies, curricula and teacher training are lagging behind; This asymmetry is likely to widen inequalities and encourage superficial uses if intervention is not taken in time. This article presents a critical review of the state of the art (2020–2025) on the educational impact of generative artificial intelligence, with attention to global trends and new pedagogical mediations. A qualitative methodology of documentary review and inductive coding applied to indexed academic publications was used. The results suggest a transition towards more personalized and student-centered teaching models, together with the redefinition of the role of teachers as a mediator and evaluator with ethical criteria. There are also persistent challenges in digital literacy for conscious use, equitable conditions for access and pedagogical accompaniment, and regulatory frameworks that guide practices and safeguard rights.

Fernando Farinango Chico, Unidad Educativa Hope Christian Academy

formación académica comenzó en la Unidad Educativa Salesiana Domingo Savio y luego continué mis estudios secundarios en el Colegio Nacional Técnico Cayambe. Posteriormente, ingresé a la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, donde obtuve el título de Licenciado en Diseño Gráfico y Control de Procesos. Con el tiempo comprendí la importancia de seguir creciendo académicamente, por lo que en el año 2021 inicié una maestría en la Universidad UTE, la cual concluí obteniendo el título de Magíster en Mercadotecnia, mención en Neuro-Mercados. En el 2023 emprendí una nueva etapa académica, esta vez en la Universidad de Otavalo, donde obtuve el título de Magíster en Educación. En el año 2024 decidí seguir fortaleciendo mis capacidades y realicé una capacitación en Formación de Formadores en modalidad dual. En cuanto a mi experiencia laboral, he trabajado como docente en el Instituto Superior Tecnológico Nelson Torres dictando la materia de Diseño Gráfico, en el Registro de la Propiedad y Mercantil del Cantón Cayambe, donde fui encargado del área de publicidad. Actualmente, me desempeño como docente en la Unidad Educativa Hope Christian Academy, dictando las materias de Lengua y Literatura y Marketing y Publicidad.

Mariana Georgina Rivera Roldán, Unidad Educativa Mariano Suárez Veintimilla

profesional con una sólida trayectoria en el ámbito educativo, respaldada por 34 años de experiencia dedicados principalmente a la educación básica, espacio en el que ha desarrollado competencias pedagógicas que le permiten trabajar con eficiencia tanto con niños como con adolescentes. Posee una formación académica robusta, siendo Magíster en Educación Básica por la Universidad de Milagro, donde fortaleció sus conocimientos en didáctica, planificación y estrategias de enseñanza inclusiva; además, es Licenciada en Educación por la Universidad Técnica de Babahoyo, institución en la que adquirió las bases teóricas y metodológicas que han guiado su amplio ejercicio docente. Actualmente se desempeña como docente de segundo año de educación básica en la Unidad Educativa Mariano Suárez Veintimilla, rol en el que aplica metodologías activas orientadas al desarrollo integral de sus estudiantes, promoviendo habilidades cognitivas, sociales y afectivas. Su amplia experiencia le ha permitido adaptarse a diversas realidades educativas, incorporar enfoques actualizados y mantener un compromiso constante con el aprendizaje significativo. educadora de amplia trayectoria y perfil multidisciplinar, con una experiencia de más de diez años en el ámbito de la docencia y en el desarrollo integral infantil. Posee el titulo de Magister en Educación por la Universidad de Otavalo, dónde profundizó en la teoría pedagógica y la investigación educativa, y es licenciada en Docencia en Educación Parvularia por la Universidad Técnica del Norte. Su práctica profesional se enfoca en el desarrollo integral de la niñez, combinando deanera efectiva los aspectos intelectuales, social y motrices en su metodología. Actualmente aplica su experiencia en el sub nivel de inicial y preparatoria en la Unidad Educativa Intercultural Bilingüe San Juan de Iluman una posición que subraya su compromiso con la diversidad y la pedagogía contextualizada. Una de sus fortalezas en el dominio de la lengua kichwa le ha permitido abordar la enseñanza y la investigación desde una perspectiva Intercultural y altamente inclusiva. Fabricio Israel Narváez Bracho, Investigador independiente

licenciado en Comunicación por la Universidad Católica del Ecuador Sede Ibarra y actual maestrante en Innovación en Educación. Acumulo cuatro años de experiencia como Editor en Jefe en el medio digital La Naranja EC, donde he liderado equipos periodísticos y gestionado estrategias que lograron un alcance histórico de 11 millones de cuentas en redes sociales. Mi perfil profesional integra la gestión de medios, la docencia y la tecnología. Poseo un dominio avanzado en redacción y manejo de herramientas digitales, incluyendo Inteligencia Artificial y software de edición como Adobe Premiere y Affinity. Cuento con un nivel alto de inglés y competencias básicas en francés e italiano. Mi experiencia incluye la docencia universitaria en asignaturas de expresión oral y escrita.
