PUBLISHER POLICIES
Focus and Scope
The technical-scientific electronic journal IDEAS is an academic publication of the Technical University of the North. It began in 2019 with a multidisciplinary vision that addresses different areas related to engineering.
It is a refereed technical-scientific electronic journal, which uses the system of external evaluation by experts (peer-review), under (double-blind review) methodology, in accordance with the publication standards of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Compliance with this system guarantees authors an objective, impartial and transparent review process, which facilitates the publication for inclusion in databases, repositories and international indexing of reference.
The journal accepts papers in Spanish and English in order to facilitate its international projection. It is open access and free, and includes original research articles, essays and reviews.
Open Access and Self-archiving Policy
Open Access: The journal has offered Open Access (OA) to all of its content immediately since its inception in 2019. This policy allows readers free access to research, contributing to a greater and better global exchange of knowledge.
Self-archiving: The journal IDEAS permits authors to deposit the final published version of their articles in institutional, subject-specific, or personal repositories without requiring prior authorization, as long as the original publication is properly cited.
CODE OF ETHICS
Code of Ethics
The technical-scientific electronic journal IDEAS as a publication that seeks excellence, establishes the code of ethics for authors, reviewers and editors. It refers to the code of ethics in force at the Technical University of the North.
POLITICAS EDITORIALES
Reviewers' commitments
- Conflict of interest: When an evaluator or reviewer has any personal or financial opinion or interest that could affect the objectivity of their evaluation, they should refrain from participating in the editorial process.
- Respect for the agreed times: Ethe reviewer who does not feel competent in the subject to be reviewed or who cannot finish the evaluation in the scheduled time, must immediately notify the editors. The reviewers undertake to evaluate the works in the shortest possible time to respect the deadlines.
- Anonymity: To ensure that the review process is as objective, unbiased and transparent as possible, reviewers will never know the authors (only through the OJS code) and will also not have knowledge about the identity of the other blind pair.
- Confidentiality: Each assigned manuscript must be considered confidential. Therefore, these texts should not be discussed with other people without the express consent of the editors.
- Contribution to the editorial decision:Peer review is a procedure that helps editors make decisions about proposed articles and also allows the author to improve the quality of articles submitted for publication. The reviewers assume the commitment to carry out a critical, honest, constructive and unbiased review, both of the scientific quality and the literary quality of the writing in the field of their knowledge and skills.
Publisher commitment
- Honesty: Editors evaluate articles submitted for publication on the basis of the scientific merit of the contents. They must ensure transparency in the processes of evaluation, editing and publication of each issue.
- Confidentiality: Editors and members of the working group undertake not to disclose information regarding articles submitted for publication to persons other than authors, reviewers and editors. The editorial team will maintain anonymity between reviewers and authors throughout the process.
- Publication process:The editors will guarantee the selection of the specialist reviewers, most qualified to issue a critical and expert assessment of the work, with the least possible bias.
- Conflict of interest and disclosure: The editors undertake not to use in their research contents of the articles submitted for publication without the written consent of the author.
- Respect for the times: The editors are responsible for compliance with the time limits for the reviews and publication of accepted works, to ensure a rapid dissemination of their results.
PAPERS EVALUATION PROCESS
Once the contributions have been received from the authors, which have been registered in the OJS system, the general editor reviews the content, verifying that the article meets the criteria of originality and relevance according to the journal's guidelines. If so, he/she directs to the section editor, according to the thematic area.
The section editor assigns at least two external reviewers for each paper, according to the expertise area. The review process is performed under the double-blind modality. Each referee reviews the article and issues a verdict, which is received by the section editor, who notifies the author so that he/she may proceed to make the pertinent changes until the requirements of the reviewers are met. The process described above takes an estimated time of four to eight weeks.
In case of notable differences in the verdict of the two reviewers, the section editor will designate a third reviewer. It should be noted that the final decision on the publication of the article is attributed to the Editor-in-Chief.
DIGITAL PRESERVATION POLICIES
To ensure permanent and secure storage, IDEAS uses the Open Journal System (OJS) supported by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). This system is compatible with the digital archive preservation services LOCKSS and CLOCKSS.
LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) focuses on distributed and continuous preservation of digital content access for individual institutions. This system is managed by Stanford University and is open to any library or institution interested in participating.
On the other hand, CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) is an independent non-profit organization with shared governance between libraries and publishers, and it is oriented towards secure long-term preservation of academic content with public access under specific circumstances, even if the original publisher ceases to operate.
Additionally, all publications of IDEAS, including individual articles and complete issues, are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier). This is a unique and permanent identifier code for electronic publications that provides information about the digital object through metadata and its location on the internet using the handle system. In this way, all metadata are backed up in Crossref.
ANTI-PLAGIARISM POLICY
The act of copying the work of others without proper attribution is unacceptable and constitutes grounds for rejection of any manuscript submitted for publication. All manuscripts submitted for review in IDEAS are checked using anti-plagiarism tools, which help verify the originality of the work.
