Multidisciplinary Engineering: Automation of buildings and applications in industry, is the title we have assigned to volume 5 number 1 of the journal Innovation & Development in Engineering and Applied Science. This volume integrates the proposals and reviews articles presented by authors from different institutions of higher education in Peru, Portugal, and Ecuador.
About Remote Method Invocation (RMI) as a technology used in object communication, Guaraca, Jácome, Pinchao, Silva, and Imbaquingo in a collaborative work between the University of Minho (Portugal) and the Technical University of the North, contribute to this edition with a literature review showing the application of this method to distributed computing.
In the field of biomaterials, Rincón from the University of the North in Colombia proposes a review focused on the characterization of biodegradable composite materials with applications in medicine. This study covers the most used manufacturing and characterization techniques in recent years related to this type of materials.
Montenegro, Vélez, Gonzáles, Jaramillo, and Umaquinga contribute with a documentary and descriptive study on the use of home automation for people with disabilities, revealing the importance of building automation in therapeutic health issues.
In the textile engineering field, Angulo and Godoy, from the Universidad Técnica del Norte, present the results of a study of micro-movements in sewing tasks with industrial sewing machines oriented in terms of production time reduction, ergonomic risks, and database construction.
Finally, from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Peru), the Universidad Técnica del Norte and the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Ibarra (Ecuador), Salazar, Luza, Revelo and Castañeda, present an exploratory review of the literature on proposed solutions to noise pollution based on IoT.
From the Editorial Committee of the journal, we thank each of the authors for their contributions in this first issue of the year 2023 and we extend the invitation to national and international researchers in the different fields of engineering to submit their contributions; emphasizing that this call is permanent, which implies the reception of articles throughout the year.
