Editorial process and peer review
Ecos de la Academia guarantees a rigorous, transparent, and ethically responsible editorial process, based on internationally recognized academic, methodological, and editorial criteria. Editorial decisions are based on the scientific quality of the manuscript, thematic relevance, originality, methodological consistency, argumentative clarity, ethical compliance, and adherence to the journal’s guidelines.
Manuscript submission
Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, in an editable format, preferably Microsoft Word, with a .doc or .docx extension, using the journal’s official template . Manuscripts submitted by email or in formats other than those established by Ecos de la Academia will not be accepted.
Initial editorial review
All submitted manuscripts will undergo a preliminary editorial review by the editorial team. At this stage, the following aspects will be verified:
- The suitability of the manuscript to the journal’s thematic focus, scope, and editorial policy.
- Compliance with the formal, normative, and documentary requirements established in the author guidelines .
- The originality of the manuscript through similarity detection tools and editorial review.
- The inclusion of the anonymized version for peer review, where applicable.
If the manuscript does not meet the minimum criteria of thematic relevance, originality, editorial ethics, or essential formal requirements, it may be rejected without being sent to peer review. When the non-compliance can be corrected, the editorial team may request preliminary corrections before starting the review process.
Peer review
Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial review will undergo scientific peer review under a double-blind model, in which authors and reviewers do not know each other’s identity.
- Each manuscript will be evaluated by at least two reviewers specialized in the subject area.
- The journal will seek to ensure that at least one reviewer is external to the publishing institution, Universidad Técnica del Norte, in order to strengthen objectivity, impartiality, and transparency in the process.
- Review reports will be submitted through the OJS platform.
- The corresponding author will be notified of the progress of the editorial process through the platform and the email address registered in the submission.
- Editorial timelines are estimated and may vary according to manuscript complexity, reviewer availability, required revisions, re-evaluations, or additional editorial decisions.
Editorial decision
Once the review process has been completed, the manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:
- Accepted: the manuscript may proceed to editing, layout, and publication.
- Accepted with minor corrections: authors must incorporate specific adjustments before continuing the editorial process.
- Accepted with major corrections: authors must make substantial modifications and submit a revised version for editorial review or re-evaluation.
- Rejected: the manuscript does not meet the scientific, methodological, ethical, formal, or editorial standards required by the journal.
In the event of observations, authors must submit a revised version of the manuscript together with a reasoned response to the comments received. This file must not be registered as a new submission but uploaded as a direct response within the corresponding editorial workflow in the OJS platform.
Review disagreements
If there is a substantial divergence between reviewers’ reports, the editorial team may request a third review, consult a section editor, or refer the case to the Editorial Board. In cases of appeal, controversy, or possible conflict of interest, the decision will be analyzed in accordance with the editorial and ethical policies of Ecos de la Academia.
Frequency and continuous publication
The call for manuscript submissions is open throughout the year. The journal applies a continuous publication model, so accepted and approved manuscripts may be published once the editorial process has been completed, without having to wait for the full issue to be assembled.
Evaluation aligned with international good practices
Ecos de la Academia guides its editorial process according to international good practices in scientific publishing, editorial ethics, transparency, peer review, and open access. Editorial decisions are based exclusively on academic, scientific, methodological, ethical, and editorial criteria, and not on economic, personal, or institutional interests unrelated to manuscript quality.
