Author guidelines

Ecos de la Academia receives original, unpublished manuscripts relevant to the field of education and its interdisciplinary intersections. Submitted works must not have been previously published or be simultaneously under review, editing, or publication by another journal, publisher, editorial repository, or academic outlet.

Accepted manuscript types

Research article: presents original results derived from empirical, theoretical, methodological, or applied research.

Review article: analyzes, systematizes, and discusses relevant scholarly literature on a problem, field, or research line.

Case study: rigorously examines an experience, phenomenon, institution, community, educational practice, or specific situation with academic value.

Short communication, technical note, or academic essay: develops brief reflective, methodological, or technical contributions with bibliographic support and editorial relevance.

Languages, title, abstract, and keywords

The journal accepts manuscripts in Spanish, English, Kichwa, and Portuguese. All manuscripts must include title, abstract, and keywords in Spanish and English. When the main language of the manuscript is Kichwa or Portuguese, these elements must also be included in the original language of the work.

The abstract must have a maximum length of 200 words, be written in a single paragraph, and be organized as a structured abstract using the internal labels: Objective:, Methodology:, Results:, and Conclusions:. The label Limitations: is optional when it is necessary to specify methodological or scope-related restrictions.

General manuscript format

The manuscript must be submitted in an editable file and comply with the journal’s official template.

The text must maintain academic writing, argumentative coherence, careful spelling, and clear structure.

Tables, figures, charts, photographs, or appendices must be numbered, titled, and cited within the text.

Images, tables, datasets, or third-party materials must have authorization for use or a compatible licence.

Citations and references must follow APA style, 7th edition.

Authorship, contribution, and correspondence

Authors are those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research process, writing, review, and communication of results, in accordance with the roles recognized by the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). Authors must declare the specific role of each contributor in the Article Submission Letter.

Authors must register:

Standardized academic name, preferably matching the ORCID record.

Institutional or academic contact email address.

Complete institutional affiliation, including city and country. Authors are encouraged to include the ROR identifier where available.

Valid and verifiable ORCID iD.

The person who registers the manuscript on the platform will assume the role of corresponding author and will be responsible for communication with the editorial team throughout the process.

Originality, plagiarism, and editorial ethics

Authors must ensure that the manuscript is original, unpublished, and does not infringe copyright, intellectual property rights, image rights, privacy, or any other third-party rights. The journal does not accept plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, unjustified fragmentation of results, citation manipulation, data fabrication, falsification of results, or misleading use of sources.

All manuscripts will be subject to editorial review, peer review, and verification through similarity detection tools. When irregularities are detected before publication, the manuscript may be rejected. If they are detected after publication, the journal may apply correction, expression of concern, or retraction.

Mandatory manuscript statements

Where applicable, the manuscript must include the following statements:

Author contribution: description of each author’s CRediT roles.

Funding: identification of financial, institutional, or technical support.

Conflict of interest: declaration of financial, institutional, academic, employment-related, or personal relationships that may influence the work.

Ethical approval: committee name, institution, date, and protocol or approval number, when required by the nature of the study.

Informed consent: statement applicable to research involving people, images, interviews, recordings, minors, vulnerable communities, or sensitive data.

Data availability: repository, link, DOI, persistent identifier, or reasonable conditions for accessing the data.

Use of artificial intelligence: tool used, purpose of use, and stage of the process in which it was employed, where applicable.

Use of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence cannot be credited as an author or co-author. Any use of artificial intelligence tools must be subject to critical human supervision, information verification, and quality control by the authors. Substantial uses must be declared transparently and traceably.

Peer review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial review will be sent for double-blind peer review. Authors must therefore upload an anonymized version of the manuscript, without names, affiliations, acknowledgements, funding, file metadata, or any other elements that may directly or indirectly identify the authors.

Copyright, licence, and no publication fees

Authors retain copyright over their articles and grant Ecos de la Academia a non-exclusive, free-of-charge, worldwide licence for the publication, distribution, preservation, and dissemination of their articles.

The contents published by the journal are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. This licence allows users to copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the material in any medium or format, including for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given.

The journal is diamond open access and does not charge submission, review, editorial processing, editing, layout, or article publication fees.

Manuscript submission

Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the journal’s OJS platform. Before submission, authors must verify that the file complies with these guidelines, that the review version is anonymized, and that the required supplementary documents are attached.

  • All submissions to Ecos de la Academia must meet the following requirements before entering the editorial process:

    • The manuscript is original, unpublished, and has not been previously published or submitted simultaneously for review, editing, or publication by another journal, publisher, or academic outlet.
    • The manuscript file is submitted in an editable format and complies with the journal’s template, structure, and author guidelines.
    • The text includes title, abstract, and keywords in Spanish and English. The abstract is written in a single paragraph, has a maximum length of 200 words, and includes the labels: Objective, Methodology, Results, and Conclusions.
    • The version intended for peer review has been anonymized and does not contain names, affiliations, acknowledgements, funding information, file metadata, or any other elements that may identify the authors.
    • All authors have approved the submission, the authorship order, the submitted version, and their respective contributions to the manuscript.
    • The ORCID iD, email address, complete institutional affiliation, city, and country of each author are included.
    • Citations and references comply with APA style, 7th edition, and include DOI or stable URL where available.
    • Tables, figures, charts, photographs, datasets, instruments, or other included materials have proper authorization, a compatible licence, or the corresponding attribution.
    • The manuscript includes, where applicable, statements on author contribution, funding, conflicts of interest, ethical approval, informed consent, data availability, and use of artificial intelligence.
    • The use of artificial intelligence tools, where applicable, has been transparently declared, indicating the tool used, the purpose of use, and the stage of the process in which it was employed.
    • The authors accept that the manuscript will undergo editorial review, similarity verification, and double-blind peer review.
    • The authors accept that, if plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, data manipulation, undeclared use of artificial intelligence, or any other ethical irregularity is detected, the manuscript may be rejected or subject to post-publication editorial measures.
    • The authors retain copyright and agree to publication under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
    • The authors acknowledge that Ecos de la Academia is a diamond open access journal and does not charge submission, review, editorial processing, editing, layout, or article publication fees.
