Aims

Ecos de la Academia is a scientific journal published by Universidad Técnica del Norte, Ecuador. Its primary aim is to contribute to the production, discussion, and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of education and its interdisciplinary intersections through the publication of original, rigorous, and relevant scholarly work that contributes to the understanding and transformation of educational processes.

The journal pursues the following specific aims:

  • To disseminate research findings that provide empirical evidence, theoretical developments, or methodological contributions relevant to the study of education.
  • To promote critical analysis and scholarly discussion of contemporary educational issues in local, national, and international contexts.
  • To foster interdisciplinary dialogue between education and related fields such as communication, psychology, technology, art, culture, physical activity, and sport.
  • To increase the visibility of educational innovations and scientifically grounded experiences that contribute to the development of educational practices, policies, and teaching and learning processes.
  • To strengthen the open circulation of knowledge by promoting access to, use of, and dissemination of scientific output among researchers, educators, undergraduate and postgraduate students, educational administrators, and other stakeholders involved in education.
  • To foster the internationalization and diversity of scholarly communication by welcoming contributions from different geographical, institutional, and cultural contexts.

Scope

Ecos de la Academia publishes original and unpublished contributions related to the field of education and its interdisciplinary intersections. Education is understood as a multidimensional phenomenon encompassing pedagogical, communicational, psychological, cultural, technological, and social processes associated with education, learning, and human development.

The journal's thematic scope is organized into the following areas:

Educational Innovation

Research on the transformation of teaching and learning processes, active methodologies, pedagogical innovation, educational technologies, artificial intelligence in education, digital learning environments, educational assessment, teacher education, curriculum design, and emerging educational trends.

Educommunication

Studies addressing the relationships among education, communication, and media; media and information literacy; digital communication; digital competencies; multimedia narratives and languages; platforms and social media in educational contexts; educational audiovisual production; and communication processes related to teaching and learning.

Education and Psychology

Research addressing cognitive, affective, motivational, and social processes associated with learning; human development; educational well-being and coexistence; inclusion; educational needs; guidance; behavior; and psychological variables related to educational processes.

Education, Art and Culture

Studies examining the relationships between education, artistic expression, heritage, identity, interculturality, creativity, and cultural practices, as well as teaching, learning, mediation, and knowledge-production processes related to the arts and culture.

Education, Physical Activity and Sport

Research on physical education, physical activity, sport, and educational processes; sport teaching and learning; motor development; pedagogical practices associated with physical activity; and interdisciplinary studies connecting education, movement, well-being, and human development.

Types of Contributions

The journal accepts research articles, review articles, academic essays, technical notes, and book reviews, provided that they establish an explicit relationship with the field of education and make an identifiable contribution to knowledge.

Manuscripts are particularly relevant when they present a clearly defined research problem, an up-to-date theoretical framework, a coherent methodological design, rigorous analysis of evidence, and a critical discussion of findings.

Geographical Coverage

Ecos de la Academia has a national and international scope. The journal welcomes research conducted across diverse social, cultural, and educational contexts, as well as comparative studies and contributions that advance the understanding of educational issues of regional and global relevance.

Scope boundaries: manuscripts whose primary subject belongs to another discipline are considered outside the journal's scope when they do not establish a substantive, explicit, and methodologically grounded relationship with education or educational processes. The mere use of students, teachers, or educational institutions as a study population does not, by itself, constitute sufficient evidence of thematic relevance.
