Meritocracia: Democratización o exclusión en el acceso a la educación superior en Ecuador

Abstract
El presente trabajo analiza la meritocracia como estrategia gubernamental para mejorar el acceso de la poblaci.n
estudiantil a la educaci.n superior. El prop.sito del presente art.culo fue indagar los factores que limitan el
acceso a las universidades p.blicas del pa.s a trav.s de la opini.n de los estudiantes y docentes de la universidad
de Otavalo. La indagaci.n estuvo sustentada metodol.gicamente en el modelo cuantitativo, de car.cter descriptivo
y de campo. Para la recolecci.n de la informaci.n pertinente al problema se utiliz. la t.cnica de an.lisis
documental, observaci.n directa y la entrevista estructurada. Del an.lisis estad.stico sobre enrolamiento a la
educaci.n superior se desprende que los niveles de acceso a la universidad ecuatoriana son poco alentadores.
La meritocracia, as. como la situaci.n econ.mica de los hogares, la residencia, la situaci.n civil del estudiante,
la relaci.n laboral, la procedencia .tnica entre otras, son factores determinantes a la hora de decidir acceder a la
educaci.n superior.
