La vocación docente universitaria: controversia entre las inclinaciones naturales y la disposición aprendida

Abstract
Se persiguió como objetivo interpretar el concepto de vocación docente que han construido los profesores
universitarios de la Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes, sede Ibarra, para lo cual se empleó la
fenomenología interpretativa, los informantes se constituyeron por 11 profesores universitarios y 5 coordinadores
de carreras, los datos se obtuvieron mediante un cuestionario, estructurado en 10 preguntas
para ser respondido con escala de Likert (Siempre, Casi Siempre, Algunas Veces, Pocas Veces , Nunca ).
También se usó una entrevista contentiva de 10 interrogantes. Los datos se interpretaron haciendo uso
de la estadística descriptiva y del análisis de contenido. Los resultados indican que el concepto de vocación
docente manejado por los informantes es un constructo que involucra elementos como motivación
intrínseca, motivación por enseñar, interés por el área pedagógica y autodeterminación, no obstante, es
un conocimiento más teórico que práctico. Asimismo, la evidencia empírica corrobora que aunque los
componentes aptitudinales tienen incidencia, la vocación docente es una representación para la cual los
componentes sociales son determinantes.
